Renting in Longview Texas 2

Many people renting here do not know they have rights as tennants. I want to make it easier for those of you who rent to know what your rights are. But first...
1. When renting no matter from whom, always have a written rental agreement. Verbal ones are very difficult to prove in court.
2. Ask for references of past or present tennants. Call the references to see how the landlord handles rental issues. Do not get personnal.
3. PRE-READ the contract before signing. Make sure you understand everything, if not ask questions. If you're not comfortable with the leaglities, contact a lawyer or Tennant Association.
4. Check the local Justice of the Peace records for civil actions the landlord has had or might currently have against them. You can even check criminal cases for each county. This information is public record. (Meaning it is open to public knowledge)

It's better to take the time to check out as much as you can, it's for your protection.

If you have had a civil case or landlord poblems here in Longview, post a reply.
